Elizabeth here, with the latest goings-on at SourceForge. Clearly, you're all excited about that, so let's get right to it! This month, we improved Allura (our open source SF.net beta) by adding some new functionality. We also tweaked the homepage design a bit, based on feedback from you, our users.

Some of you were fortunate enough to be asked to participate in a research study by SciencesPo/Harvard, and your donations helped the Red Cross. More about this below.

We're also thrilled to welcome a new President and CEO over the Media Division of Geeknet (of which SourceForge is a part), Jeffrey Drobick. Jeff survived his first week with flying colors, and we're really happy to have him on board (more about Jeff below).

OpenPetra has been selected as our POTM for May, 2011. By helping non-profits with administrative tasks, they help them focus on making the world a better place. Kudos to the team there for making a difference!

Coming up, I'll be at php|tek (Chicago, May 24-27) so be sure to say hello! It would be great to see you. :)

Cheers!

Allura Improvements for You
We've been busy as ever making the SF.net Beta (aka Allura) even better. We added:

  • screenshots to SF Beta projects
  • more settings to SF Beta projects' summary pages (e.g. homepage URL, preferred support)
  • cross-referencing linked items in SF Beta between wiki and tracker
  • increased spam protection on user registration form

Give our beta project interface a look, or join the fun. Our code is all open source!

SF.net Homepage Improvements
After the last iteration of our homepage a few months ago, we received a ton of positive feedback from you guys. We also got some suggestions for improvement, which we've implemented, such as bringing back the category view and changing up the projects that are shown on the home page. Be sure to let us know what you think of our new-ish look!

Research Project with SciencesPo/Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University
Some of you may have gotten an email asking for your participation in a research project. Although this is a legitimate project that we blogged about, we understand the hesitation to participate in anything that looks unfamiliar and promises a cash reward upon completion. Rest assured, this was not spam, and you can feel completely confident in answering the questions on the survey.

We'll be blogging about the results of the research when they are available.
